Everything you’ve wanted to know about registration

With every passing week, interest in the XXII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work seems to be growing.

We’ve had more and more people reaching out with comments and questions about their upcoming experience. While many are returning participants from previous congresses, we’ve also had many first timers with similar questions.

If this is your first time attending, or if you just have some questions then this blog is for you! Let’s take a look at some of the most common questions we’ve received.

What is the focus of the 2020 World Congress?

An important question! The XXII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work (or #WorldCongress2020) will focus on Prevention in the Connected Age – Global solutions to achieve safe and healthy work for all.  This theme highlights the power of diversity and how different cultures and backgrounds can come together to overcome challenges.

How do I register? How much does it cost?

Registration is easy! First, make sure you visit our registration homepage to learn more about the different price points. We have early bird rates, as well as amazing discounts for students and professionals visiting from developing countries.  Once you feel comfortable, click on “Register” and begin the process. If you have any questions during registration, feel free to email:

What does the registration fee cover?

The registration fee covers attendance at all programme activities including the opening and closing ceremonies, welcome reception, Canada Night, all keynote speeches, technical sessions and symposia, and the International Media Festival for Prevention.  It also covers the poster exhibition and International Safety and Health Exhibition as well as technical tours (subject to availability).  Lunch and coffee breaks are included with your registration fee on Monday, October 5, Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7.

What’s not covered in the registration fee?

Your registration fee does not cover breakfast or dinner meals, travel, hotel accommodations or any tourist / social / recreational activities while you are in Toronto.

Is financial support available for attendees?

A fellowship programme will be offered for occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals and others in the field of OSH who are from developing countries, as defined by the World Bank.  Please consult the Congress website for a list of developing countries.  We particularly encourage women to apply, as well as those submitting abstracts to the 2020 World Congress.  The application process will open in the spring of 2020.  Details will be available at that time on the Congress website.

What if I qualify but I already paid?

If you’re considering submitting an application for the Fellowship Programme, we recommend holding off on registration. The Fellowship Programme will open in early 2020 and those who qualify will receive confirmation of their acceptance before early bird registration ends.  Because of that, we will not be providing refunds to those who pay for their registration and are subsequently approved for the Fellowship Programme.

I only want to attend one session – is it possible to do so for less than the single day rate?

Unfortunately, the Congress does not have a single-session registration fee. However, we hope that you will find more than just one valuable session on any given day. The best rate for a person hoping to attend for one day is the single day rate. Check out our website for more details on registration fees.

What if I need to register a large group?

For groups of 10 or more please contact for registration and accommodation assistance.

What happens if I have to cancel my registration just before the Congress due to an urgent, unforeseen issue?

Please note that 50% of the registration fee will be refunded for cancellations made on or before June 26, 2020 and cancellations after June 26, 2020 will not be refunded. For more information reach out to

Can I obtain a letter of invitation before I register?

An official Letter of Invitation to obtain a Visitor Visa and authorization to enter Canada will be issued to you ONLY after your registration has been completed and full payment received. Further instructions on how to obtain your Invitation Letter will be provided during the registration process.

Can I have more information on hotel accommodations?

The Congress has special rates with four hotels (located near the Congress venue) that will be available for booking in October 2019.  They do not include breakfast or tax (15%). Please visit the Congress website for more information.

Have more questions?

We hope that this answers some of your questions around registration. If you have questions we didn’t answer let us know! You can email us at or find us on social media @worldcongressCA.
