The XXII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work will be held online from September 20-23, 2021. Details on how to apply for media accreditation are below.

Congress Overview

The World Congress on Safety & Health at Work is organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Social Security Association (ISSA). Since 1954 it has been held in a different country around the world every three years. The Congress is the world’s largest gathering of health and safety leaders, bringing together thousands of delegates from over 150 countries.

In 2020 it was Canada’s turn to host the XXII World Congress, with the Institute for Work & Health (IWH) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety (CCOHS) as co-hosts. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Congress was postponed to September 20-23, 2021 and is now being held as a virtual gathering.

The Congress theme is “Prevention in the Connected Age: Global solutions to achieve safe and healthy work for all”. The three main topics for the Congress sessions are:
  • Innovations in addressing longstanding safety and health challenges
  • Implications of the changing world of work for occupational safety and health
  • Advancing a culture of prevention

Congress programming runs across time zones and includes opening and closing sessions, six technical sessions, four keynote addresses, 21 symposia, and the International Media Festival for Prevention.

The Congress Program contains details on the host organizations, and information on the schedule, sessions and speakers.
