Mrs. Janet Mayowa Nwaogu

PhD Candidate, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China

Janet Nwaogu is presently a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Building and Real Estate, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is under the supervision of Chair Prof. Albert P.C. Chan, and her research interest is on the mental health of construction personnel. Janet received an MSc. in Construction Management from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. Before enrolling for a Ph.D., Janet was an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, after leaving the industry.

As a young graduate and female in the construction industry who experienced depression while working as a site engineer, her experience spurred her interest into researching measures to improve employee satisfaction and mental health. She started her research journey by highlighting the causes of employee dissatisfaction. She is presently researching measures to improve the mental health of on-site construction personnel in Nigeria. She already has five publications from her Ph.D. research.

SYM3 - Psychosocial factors and developments in mental health at work

This symposium will focus on the prevention of psychosocial risks at work, as well as the challenges of managing mental health in the workplace. Leading examples involving standards, regulations and workplace practices will be highlighted.
