Dr. Stefan Hussy

Director-General, German Social Accident Insurance
Chair of the International Social Security Association Technical Commission on Insurance against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases


Dr. Stefan Hussy is the Director General of German Social Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung e.V.), and Chair of the International Social Security Association: Technical Commission on Insurance Against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases, in Germany.

Previously, Dr. Hussy was the Chief Prevention Manager of the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Trade and Logistics Industry from 2010 to 2016, before becoming a member of its Board of Management from 2016 to 2019.

He had studied Ferrous Metallurgy at the Clausthal University of Technology (CUT), graduating in 1982-86, and received his Doctorate of Engineering in 1992. This education background has enabled Dr. Hussy to excel within several areas of work.

From 1988 to 1990, Dr. Hussy was a production engineer for material development at Preussag Stahl AG before becoming the company’s Works Manager in the cold-rolling mill from 1990-1992.

From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Hussy was the Labour Inspector for the Institution for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention in the Metalworking Industry in northern Germany. And, from 1998 to 2010, he was the Head of the Prevention Division for the German Social Accident Insurance Institution, for the public sector in Lower Saxony and for the local authorities in Hanover.

ISSA Special Session: Global Forum for Work Injury Insurance

The Global Forum gathers leading experts and researchers from social security institutions to discuss prevention related questions for workers compensation boards and occupational accident insurance schemes. The Forum focusses on various topics dedicated to prevention, communication, innovation, sustainability and resilience. This year, the Forum will address responses to pandemics outbreaks and extreme events such as the COVID-19. It will be hosted by the Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation with honourable support of the XXII World Congress on Safety and Health Organizers, the International Social Security Association and its ISSA Technical Commission on Insurance against Employment Accidents and Occupational Diseases. We are also pleased to welcome the regional organizations, bringing together social security institutions that are providing insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases.
